I couldn't agree with you more. Here is the problem: I suspect that this maple has a mite that consumes chlorophyl. This little critter resides on the bud and atacks the leaf as it expands. So I defoliate to allow the Sevin to get to the buds and this way I am hoping for a crop of healthy leaves. I will keep this tree posted what ever the outcome.
