When I visited Jim Smith this spring I asked him to pose for a photo of the twoo of us. He happily agreed.
Latter when I got home and had the pic developed I wrote(by hand) a letter, thanking him for showing me around his nursery and inviting my to his home to view his personal collection.
I sent 2 copies of the pic and the letter to him, not knowing if I overstepped a boundary or something.
About a month latter a recieved an envelope from him.
Inside was one of the pic autographed by him to me, and also a large pic of the tree that we were standing next to.
What an honor.
I do not know if every bonsai artist would do such a thing, but he did.
I now proudly display the framed picture in my living room.
Eeryone that comes over (that are not into bonsai) asks me who that is.
And I tell them the story of my visit to Jim Smiths.
attached is the pic he signed.
I would really hope that people will not bother all of the artists they see with such a request, OR TRY TO MAKE MONEY from this. That would be a shame to all in bonsai.
