Will (she says primly) MISTER Bates never approached my tool bag. Indeed, rumors of his presence raced through the hall at one point like a bad shrimp cocktail through a Shriner, but sightings were few and believed to be merely to distract the crowds from the demonstrations in order for SOME people to get better seats.
