The first question, are pine or maples effected by Iron in the soil?

The second question, what amount and what compound of iron is an issue?

I have found some very interesting old volcanic rock which is a great mix of colors. This is not pumice or rock like you may use in bonsai soil. It is heavy, has large bubble chamber, mixed metals and seems to have sulfur deposites. The third question would be whether this rock would leach metals and prevent it from being used in a root over rock style?

Not sure if anyone will be able to answer these questions but go ahead and spectulate. most likely the only way to know will be to use with some cheap nursery stock.
