Thanks for the info ALL. I will put the pellets on the bottom of the pot but then that brings me to the next snag. They dont sell the nice mesh for covering the pot holes. I eventually got some mesh from a craft shop ( more like lace really).

Does anyone know what Perlite is to gardeners? I saw it at the shop and it looks interesting??
