Wooly Aphids
Hey Everybody, I have a 15 year old shohin size cotoneaster that has wooly aphids. I noticed a month or so ago that the tree had aphids so I sprayed it down with a heavy stream of water and then sprayed it with schultz insect spray and that seemed to take care of those. About 1 week ago I noticed fuzzy white growths on the trunk and in the crooks of the branches, I read up and realized it was probably wooly aphids so I treated like I have in the past, only this time I took a toothpick and scraped all the growths I could see off before hosing and spraying. For some reason this did not work. I have been repeatedly scraping the growths and spraying with a heavy stream of water but to date it's not working. I haven't been using the schultz bug spray every time because I don't like to use that more than once weekly. I have many trees but this one seems to be the only one I'm having trouble with, it repeatedly is getting infested. I'm not sure what I should do next. Does anyone have any other suggestions on treatment? All would be appreciated. Thanks.-sw
