I didn't mean to downplay the plight of the homeowners in this mess. I have been following this story for about a year now.

It was the unique phrase, "baby trees" that caught my attention. It really doesn't apply to plants, and certainly the loss of a larger, established tree is more environmentally significant. I keep wondering what possessed the writer to use "baby trees" and I find it hard not to suspect there is an element of journalistic spin doctoring. The phrase certainly conjures up connotations of innocence and fragility against a foil of buzzing machinery.

I think this ("baby trees" mentality) is the same type of thinking that would lead to the conclusion that bonsai is cruel.

Regards,

Matt
