So you guys just planted this tree, right?
Japanese maples can get a little burned in the sun, especially if the roots aren't established. 90-100 degrees in texas can be tough on a newly transplanted maple, so that is probably what your deal is here.
It's not fatal, just ugly. Be sure it gets enough water (but don't drwon it).
