Can't really speak about the ring...could be anything. Alot of the mallsai have been wired and left too long, that'll leave a mark for sure.
My ficus is fairly tempremental. Do like Will said, quit moving it, and stick a chopstick in the soil. You may also want to look at the soil threads...Will has compiled a ton of them in the "All there is to know about..." threads. Check those out and just let it be for a while. Ficus take a bit to adjust to being moved around within a room let alone what you've done with it.
