Very nice material.
I would just go with a triple or double trunk, and no jinning of the smaller trees.
The jin and charred top of the small trees are supposed to suggest lightning damage and not fire damage (fire would normally burn part of the lower trunk and lower branches). In this case the jins don't make sense since the taller tree is the one to be hit by lightning.
So, it seems more natural to me to leave the tops of the smaller trees green.
