I do want opinions that are unadulterated by my own thoughts. This is also the reason why I didn't mention the two lower branches in my inital post.

I do want to thank you and everybody else for their great input. I am still not totally decided on whether I'm going to use those two lower branches for anything yet, but even if I were to Jin them at some point, I'd like there to be a bit more to work with first. So the branches will be staying for some time yet, and I'll see where that leaves me.

All in all, I do think that I'll be going the way of Matt's last virtual, which seems to me is a cross between Matt's first suggestion and Andy's second drawing.

Practically this means, I'll need to pinch the Apex quite heavily throughout the year. The right side main character branch will also need heavy pinching to keep it in place and to stop it from getting any barer on the inside. The second character branch on the left side will need less pruning so it can develop a bit more, and the back branch will receive moderate pinching. It can grow out a bit more, but not too much I think. The low left branches will receive no pinching, but I'll need to make sure they get more sunlight, otherwise the foilage will not be compact enough to be of much use as a potential 2nd trunk. Next spring I'll see if I can't get the tree into somewhat wider shallower pot, to start preparing it for a slab.

Does that sound about right?

Stefan
