Wow, Great thread, and good to keep it going...
Hi, My name is Marc, and I am a bonsaioholic.
<cue for everyone to say "Hi Marc!">
Where: Ottawa Ontario Canada
Why: I started bonsai about 14 years ago and never did very well at it. I attended Club meetings religiously for about 2 years until I got a girlfriend, a life then a wife.
Life became much more busy at that point.
At one point i had aproximately 30-40 small pre-bonsai. I never at any point had anything that I would call a finished bonsai.
I started with a mallsai (purchased at my local grocery store). A Juniper nana that was like most that you see with teh glued on gravel on top. After that i quickly went out scouring the flower shops and garden centers buying everything in site.
Got a great Ficus b. in a clump style that was great for about 2 years. made lots of mini's with teh cuttings.
Alas, I have only one tree in my collection that is potted. A cutting of the original Ficus I purchased 12-13 years ago. This is my baby and I will post a pic of it when i get around to taing one. It is in hurting condition as it has been in a very dim apartment (big leaves) and i have been watering it with tap water (lots of calcium deposit). Ill post an image of it as it is now and get some feedback on how to clean it up.
I decided recently that I would get back into it to a moderate degree due to room restraints. I will be movign into a medium sized apartment with a medium sized balcony. There wnt be alot of room so I will need to be very choosy about my trees.
I will be working with the trees I have in my brothers backyard that i planted there 3 years ago and havnt touched since.
If i remember right, there are (all locally collected) a Larch, Apple, cherry, creeping juniper (my fave) and an unknown.
I am very glad I found this site and that it is filled with lots of knowledgeable people who are eager to help.
Thanks for listenting and for your support.
(phew step one done...)
