Ian.

I don't know about cheap in the US. I got mine on a special deal. Was driving down the road and saw a sign for a divorce sale. A different kind of yard sale to say the least.
The mixer was there still in the box. I am ashamed to say how little I paid for it ;o)
I mixed up about 20 gallons of soil with it yesterday. Took about 5 minutes to do it.
Didn't have any problem with the particles breaking down. I did fill the drum up pretty good. Instead of flopping the particles around it just folded them in.
I used crushed lava stone and fir bark in the soil I mixed. All looked good when I took it out.
The fir bark had quite a bit of moisture in it. That did make them a bit softer and maybe that helped.
Time will tell if I wasted my money.
