California Redwood Telephone Pole- no more

Hi,
Was working to get the plants that returned with me from WBC in DC put in their places when I realized that I still had a relatively large "telephone pole" style California Redwood (Sequoia semipervens (sp?)) languishing in the mica pot I had placed it in a couple of years ago. Zach Shimon (Mendocino Coast Bonsai) had collected it (I believe in 2001) and had shipped it out to me in '02. In the past I have generally picked out more knarly, shorter trees, this time I wanted one of the big boys.

So I have looked and looked at this tree- it was about 48" tall had a 9-10" base and, as I had asked for, no real taper. The picture on the left shows the post cleanup picture after removing all of the adventitious growth and the dense budding that occurs around the base. I then noticed that it had a significant low reverse taper at the base 9that went around the tree almost completely, that could only be fixed by either planting deeper, or the ArborTech.

I chose the arbor tech. The carving was done 3 weeks ago, the tree has pushed a bunch of new growth and will soon be ready for wiring. Any ideas, the "window" in the back is due to a large area of dead wood resulting from a second "trunklet" that was removed from the burl when the tree was collected. (the bucket that contributes to the fine back ground is of the standard 5 gallon type)
