We had a pretty wet, cool spring early on this year. During that time I had some yellowing and leaf drop on my elms. A little black spot, too, I think.

So, I have cut back on the water a bit since and put them in more sun. Seemed to do the trick.

That said, not sure it this applies to your situation. I agree with taking it to someone close by for an opinion.
