Wink Root Pruning

I was re-reading a short article by Bonsai Horticulturist Dave Pike where he states " I usually teach 3 different types of Root Pruning , Pot / Root over rock / Cascade".

And I felt that this raises some interesting points, although Daves article didn't go into any detail.

My thoughts are :

Normal pot root pruning is obvious.

Root over rock : Leave the tap root on , and encourage deep large roots.
Perhaps cut off some of the thinner roots towards the top
to aid appearence.

Cascade : Similar to root over rock I guess in that the fine roots should be
towards the ends of the roots where the soil is dampest.

Now I know that there is probably more than 3 - perhaps tray planting or forest planting - that could also have there own techniques , but this post is really to try and encourage some discussion and ideas.

Happy Rooting
