I have a retired friend of mine that will water etc. my trees when I am out of town. I spent a lot of time explaining things to him so he is not only comfortable doing the job but I am comfortable with him doing it.
He gets $25 per day that I am gone (rain or shine)
When I board plants at my shop I charge $5 per week per plant. A nominal sum considering the responsibility I assume with the plants.
If I am boarding plants then my friend gets a bit extra for their care.
Personally I think he is underpaid
