Yes and yes. Any branches that you intend to save could be wired at this time. That is if they're in the place you want them. If not just wait for a while and see if you get new buds more in line with your vision. Developing bonsai is more waiting than anything else. After chopping like this you'll need to let the tree recover. Even if the new growth isn't where you want it, let it grow for a while so the tree can regain it's health. You can take off unwanted branches latter. BN is right about the hot and moist conditions. I figure they would grow fine in a sauna if they had enough sunlight. My ficus don't really grow untill night time lows are above 75 degrees.
