I tried once. I started out with a couple dozen cuttings (buds plus a bit). I was down to a few survivors within 3 months. Those hung on another few weeks but didn't last the summer.
I think to pull this off you do need bottom heat and a cloning environment (rooting hormone with antifungal treatment continuously sprayed on the leaves). But Master Saichi Suzuki was able to clone Zuisho by cuttings on the growing bench, so there you go.

Even so, I don't think you'd get "roots in 10 days" from most conifers, though.
