Collecting Privet
Hi All, this weekend I have the opportunity to collect a 10-15 year old Privet hedge. Its about 4ft high and 3ft wide trimmed into a rectangular shape over the year. This lady is basically allowing people to come dig up whatever they want from an overgrown yard (she might also have an old hibiscus for me). Nobody wants the privet and its right in the spot where she wants to put a new hot tub. So its now or never, what I'm wondering though is if this is the right time for transplanting. What are the chances of survival? I'm thinking that I need to take as much soil and roots as possible and leave all branches in tact (hopefully it fits in the van!!). In terms of soil I'm pondering a 50 - 50 inorganic/organic mix in a really big pot for a few years (to accomodate airlayers, trunk chop etc).
