Hi Lynx. I believe the backyard would be the place to keep it. Also, I would recommend finding someone in your area, (a club, bonsai farm, ect) to show you how to water, fertilize, ect. I killed the first tree I had by following advice from people with no experience with trees. Don't overwater!! Thank you to both you and your husband and I hope he makes it home soon. John
