You might be better off with Rocky Mountian Juniper, a very closely related tree. I have know several reputable growers/bonsaiist that haved aquired California Juniper and not one of them was able to keep the tree alive more than three years. It seems that they do not do well outside of California, for what ever reason is unknown to me----or anyone else that I am aware of. Unless the expense is of no problem and you think yourself experienced to succeede where many have failed I would suggest not doing it.
